Lindsey Buckingham es conocido principalmente por ser guitarrista de Fleetwood Mac. Inició su carrera como solista en 1981, y hasta la fecha ha publicado los siguientes discos: Law and Order (1981), Go Insane (1984), Out of the Cradle (1992), Under the Skin (2006) y Gift of Screws (2008) PREVIOS.- Lindsey Buckingham se unió a Fleetwood Mac en 1975 junto a Stevie Nicks, protagonizando la etapa mas exitosa tanto comercial como artística de la banda. Esta etapa llegaría hasta 1982 en la que editan "Mirage" con aceptable éxito y que contó con solo una breve gira de promoción por los Estados Unidos. Posteriormente los miembros de la banda se dedicarían por un tiempo a sus proyectos personales. En 1984 Buckingham edita su segundo disco como solista "Go Insane". DISCO.- Buckingham siempre fue identificado por ser uno de los principales generadores de ideas dentro de Fleetwood Mac, donde hacía las veces de arreglista y productor en cada uno de los discos que ejecutó con la banda, mostrando siempre inquietud por explorar nuevos sonidos, lo cual creaba tensiones dentro de la banda. De todas maneras, Buckingham como solista intentó explorar estos nuevos sonidos con técnicas de grabación sui-generis, instrumentación exótica y efectos vocales e instrumentales. tomado de :http://pologallagher.blogster.com/lindsey_buckingham_insane.html El sonido de un despertador inicia "I want you", un tema de tiempo rápido, con un teclado con sonido cuasi caribeño y una tonada bastante ligera, abre sorpresivamente este disco. Siendo 1984 no es de sorprender el sonido general del disco, Buckingham decidió tocar nuevamente todos los instrumentos, y ahora la tecnología le permitía ejecutarlos desde teclados y samplers. Por lo que el sonido de la batería por ejemplo proviene desde una Lynn drum machine y su característico sonido ochentero. "Go insane" va a continuación, la letra del tema refleja la constante en las letras de Buckingham, tribulaciones de tendencias existencialistas, fantasmas internos y su incapacidad para afrontarlos, llevandolo al borde de la locura "I lost my powers in this world, and the rumours are flying, so I go insane, like I always do". Fué el primer single de promoción y llegó al puesto 23 en los Estados Unidos. Una tonada mas pausada y mejor trabajada se presenta en "Slow Dancing". La producción del disco opaca en alguna medida el trabajo de guitarra de Buckingham, que siempre ha sido punto de admiración con este músico, los riffs que ejecuta en esta canción son precisos y marcan la melodía adecuadamente. "I Must Go" trae las influencias vocales de pop californiano en los coros que tanto agradan a Lindsey. "Play in the rain" y "Play in the rain (continued)" servían como conexión entre los lados A y B del disco en su edición original de vinilo, seguramente para dar idea de continuidad. No es mucho mas que una serie de efectos incidentales de estudio, marcados por Buckingham repitiendo incesantemente "Oh I was lonely, can we play in the rain....". Luego llega "Loving cup" que tiene un bienvenido trabajo de varias capas de guitarras, haciendo su sonido mucho mas prominente, punteos y riffs magistralmente ejecutados, junto a un fraseo mas agresivo, hacen a este tema el mas sólido en estructura y arreglos en lo que va del disco. "Bang the drum" y "D.W. Suite" cierran el disco, y es como si Buckingham hubiera guardado las municiones pesadas para el final, ya que es aqui donde llegan las sorpresas. En el primer tema, un melancólico intro de teclados y efectos vocales acompañan la sensación de fragilidad y vulnerabilidad de las letras susurradas. El tema va elaborando lentamente una serie de capas vocales de coros, la batería con rigor casi marcial y los teclados marcando una delicada melodía presentado con un trabajo de arreglos y producción meticuloso e impecable. Así llegamos al último tema, el cual como su título lo refiere, es una suite al estilo clásico de las bandas progresivas, dividiéndola en 3 capìtulos "the wish", "the prayer" y "the reflection". Inicia con el sonido de un arpa la cual cede el paso con efectos de flauta a una marcha, seguidamente y sin pausa se samplea con sonido distorsionado lo que es la presentación de Ed Sullivan a los Beatles en alguna de sus presentaciones, Buckingham casi recita a manera de oración algunos versos haciendo alusión al final de la vida terrenal y al inicio de otra en otro plano de espacio, aparecen nuevamente las arpas acompañando a Buckingham diciendo "The closing of a chapter, the opening of a door, brings forth life where there was no life before" para que el sonido de campanas dé inicio nuevamente a una marcha que nos acompañe a la otra vida, un cierre espectacular y majestuoso. La oscuridad y el dolor reflejados en sus letras, la necesidad de experimentar con nuevos efectos y recursos que ofrecía entonces la tecnología, sumado a la capacidad de Buckingham para la producción y ejecución de guitarras y demás instrumentos, hacen de este disco uno que no puede ser procesado rápidamente, hace falta un poco de tiempo para poder entender mejor las intenciones e ideas de su creador. Creo que el resultado si bien es positivo en balance general y llega a picos bastante altos de performance hacia el último tercio del disco, también presenta canciones que no llegan a convencer del todo, sobretodo en la primera mitad, sin personalidad suficiente como para saber si son intentos por acercarse a un público masivo, siendo al mismo tiempo ejercicios de experimentación, no alcanzando ninguno de los dos objetivos.
